5th Bridge and the Northfield Public Schools' Service Learning Initiative were recently featured in the October issue of the Service Learning Advocate, published by the Minnesota Department of Education. Northfield has been awarded a Minnesota Learn and Serve America grant and the 5th Bridge/Northfield Public Schools partnership is highlighted as one that is a "sparking success." Official launch of the "Utter Joy" Campaign

Eighty Northfield residents gathered at St. Olaf College for the launching of the 5th Bridge “Utter Joy” campaign. As a volunteer, donor-focused organization the mission of 5th Bridge is to enhance individual and community life in Northfield by encouraging the habits of volunteerism and philanthropy. 5th Bridge was introduced to the community by its board of nine advisory members in April of this year.

NEW NORTHFIELD VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE LAUNCHED

NORTHFIELD, MINN. (April 19, 2006) – A grassroots volunteer organization called 5th Bridge has announced plans for encouraging Northfield area residents of all ages to engage in volunteer endeavors. The organization launched this week in celebration of National Volunteer Week.

5th Bridge, which was the brainchild of Greg Carlson and Justin Stets of Carlson Capital Management in Northfield, received private funding and a donation through the Northfield Sesquicentennial Governor’s Ball. The goal of the organization is to encourage volunteerism and philanthropy throughout the community. The leadership’s vision is ambitious. Executive Director Candy Taylor said, “Our goal is to have every man, woman and school-aged child in Northfield volunteering at least five hours per month.” Read more »
